The International Driving Permit is recognized worldwide as a valuable document identifying you as a properly licensed resident of the United States No test is required, but you must have a valid U.S. Driver’s License and be 18 years of age or older. The permit is valid for one year from the date of issue. Requirements: 1.) Applicants for an IDP must be 18 or older 2.) Have a recognized US driver's license. 3.) Submit two passport-type photos. 4.) An IDP cannot be post-dated, extended, or renewed, and is valid for only one year from the date of issue. Each time a new IDP is required, the driver must repeat the entire application procedure. The IDP must be applied for in the country of origin and cannot be used there in place of a regular driver's license.
